Thames Festival Trust

Description

The Mayor’s Thames Festival works creatively with communities from all over London. It brings Londoners together to enjoy a creative, participatory, high-profile programme of free events on and around the river. At the heart of the Thames Festival is its annual lantern procession. Over the summer months the festival organises free workshops and events to produce the music, dance and illuminated objects for this magical night time procession. Environmental workshops are often held in tandem with the creative workshops to encourage understanding and appreciation of the Thames. The range and extent of the festival’s work with community groups is unique to London. The Thames Festival was relaunched in 2001 with the support of the Greater London Authority, and endorsed by the then-Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone and it is now known as “The Mayor’s London Festival”.
