To agree an Address of Condolence

Minutes:

Upon the demise of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Court of Aldermen RESOLVED, unanimously, that the draft Address of Condolence from the Court of Aldermen to the Sovereign (Queen Elizabeth) be AGREED in the following terms:-

May it please Your Majesty,

We the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London, Your Majesty’s loyal and devoted subjects, address Your Majesty to express our heartfelt condolences on the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His Royal Highness dedicated his whole life to the Monarchy, the Nation and the Commonwealth and he had been at your side since your marriage.  His affection and support have so evidently been a source of strength to Your Majesty, throughout your long reign.

His life was marked by many great achievements.  Prominent amongst these was The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, which has so transformed many young people’s lives.  Another was to the World Wildlife Fund where he was International President for 15 years.

Prince Philip was a frequent visitor to the City of London and was renowned for his 42 years as Master of Trinity House and for his enduring patronage of the City Livery Companies.

This Court has long served the City of London and The Crown and we pledge our continuing loyalty to Your Majesty.

It was further RESOLVED that the Address of Condolence be transcribed, signed by the Town Clerk by Order of the Court and sent to the Sovereign (Queen Elizabeth).
