Election of an Alderman for the Ward of Cordwainer

Minutes:

A precept summoning that a Wardmote be held before the Right Honourable the

Lord Mayor in the Ward of Cordwainer in accordance with the provisions of Section 4 of the Act of Common Council of 14July 1960 governing the election of Aldermen, Common Councilmen and Ward Beadles of the City of London (as substituted by Section 4(2) of an Act of Common Council of 4th June 2001) for the election of an able and sufficient Citizen and Freeman of the City of London, was signed by the Lord Mayor.

Report: General Purposes Committee of Aldermen

Minutes:

Aldermanic Resignations under the 70-year convention

 

The Chairman of the General Purposes Committee of Aldermen advised the

Court of the Committee’s recommendation arising from its earlier meeting, namely that following consideration of the convention which outlined Aldermen should surrender office at age 70, that this should be increased to age 75 with immediate effect.

The Court was advised that, in accordance with Standing Order No. 46 (Court of Aldermen), on 1 March 2022 the Lord Mayor (on behalf of the Court of Aldermen) was consulted by the Town Clerk about the list of applications for Freedom of the City (in the companies named). Thereafter, on 2 March 2022 approval was granted by the Town Clerk for the attached list of applications for Freedom of the City (in the Companies) named and for the Clerk to the Chamberlain’s Court to be instructed accordingly.
