Minutes:

Resolved unanimously – That, following the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,       an Address of Condolence to The Sovereign from the Lord Mayor, Aldermen and Commons be agreed in the following terms:

“May it please Your Majesty,

We, the Lord Mayor, Aldermen and Commons of the City of London in Common Council assembled, address Your Majesty to express the feelings of grief and irreplaceable loss which have affected us all upon the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.  His Royal Highness shared with Your Majesty many of your burdens and drawing upon yourselves by sheer force of example, the loyalty and affection of Your Majesty's subjects, so that together you exemplified the value in the modern world of a Monarchy united with its peoples.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s participation in the activities of the City, especially the Livery Companies of London, was refreshing, invigorating and greatly appreciated, as was his leadership of the Award Scheme which bears his name, and many organisations in the fields of conservation, science, industry and technology.  His dedication was absolute and matched by an abiding interest in the arts and a concern for the proper debate of spiritual and religious subjects.

It is our conviction that the achievements of His Royal Highness, together with his loyalty and high ideals will remain his memorial and a fitting inspiration to everyone for the future.”
