Information about The City Bridge Trust Committee

City Bridge Trust is the grant-making arm of Bridge House Estates, a fund administered by the City of London which has its origins in medieval times when finance was needed to build and maintain Old London Bridge. Bridge House Estates now maintains the five bridges which cross the Thames into the Square Mile – Tower Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark Bridge, London Bridge and Millennium Bridge.

Whilst the maintenance of these bridges is still its prime objective, thanks to the City of London’s expert management, the Bridge House Estates fund has grown substantially over the centuries. As a result, City Bridge Trust was established to make use of funds surplus to bridge requirements and currently awards grants of around £20 million a year to charities working in Greater London. The City of London Corporation is the Trust’s sole trustee and members of its Court of Common Council form the Trust’s Grants Committee.

Since The Trust began grant-making in 1995, it has made over 7,000 grants totalling over £1/3 billion. For more information visit the City Bridge Trust website: www.citybridgetrust.org.uk

The City Bridge Trust Committee was superseded by the Grants Committee of the Bridge House Estates Board on 30 September 2021 and is no longer an active Committee of the Court.
