Resolutions on Retirements, Congratulatory Resolutions, Memorials etc. Minutes: Vote of thanks to Sir Michael Savory:-
Resolved unanimously – that in taking their leave of Sir Michael Savory, upon his retirement as Alderman for the Ward of Bread Street, this Court desires to place on record its most sincere appreciation of the service that he has given to the City Corporation and, in particular, to this Court, over the past thirty years.
Sir Michael was elected to the Court of Common Council for the Ward of Broad Street in 1980. Subsequently, in 1996, he was admitted to this Court as Alderman for the Ward of Bread Street. In 2001, Sir Michael was elected to the Office of Sheriff of the City of London and, in 2004, as the City’s 677th Lord Mayor; carrying out the demanding role with commitment and integrity. A City Stockbroker for over forty years – having entered the financial services industry straight from school - during his Mayoralty, Sir Michael was well equipped to promote the Square Mile and the Financial City widely and with great success. He subsequently received a knighthood for his services to the City of London.
Sir Michael has, throughout his civic career, actively supported the Church and a number of national charities, demonstrating a very strong commitment to public service. Having come from a family with a long history of military service, Sir Michael remains committed to our Armed Forces, as demonstrated by his status as Honorary Colonel of The London Regiment between 2007 and 2011 and his position as the Managing Partner of the Muckleburgh Collection - the UK's largest privately owned working Military Collection. As a past Master of two Livery Companies, Sir Michael has also had a long standing involvement with the Livery throughout his civic career.
