A Vote of Thanks to be moved on the retirement from Office of Alderman Sir David Lewis, MA (Oxon), DL

Minutes:

Vote of Thanks to Sir David Lewis:-

Resolved unanimously – That in taking their leave of Sir David Lewis, upon his retirement as Alderman for the Ward of Broad Street, this Court desires to place on record its most sincere appreciation of the service that he has given to the City Corporation and, in particular, to this Court, over the past twelve years.

Sir David was admitted to this Court as Alderman for the Ward of Broad Street in 2001. Subsequently, in 2006, he was elected to the Office of Sheriff of the City of London and, in 2007, as the City’s 680th Lord Mayor - being only the eighth Welsh Lord Mayor in the City of London's history and the first to have a Welsh motto: "aim as high as the sun."

A businessman and a lawyer - with a most distinguished career working for Norton Rose – during his Mayoralty, Sir David was well-appointed to promote the Square Mile and to serve as the UK's ambassador for financial services around the World. On 1st January 2009, Her Majesty The Queen announced his Knighthood in recognition of his services to the legal profession and to the City of London.

Sir David has, throughout his civic career, served on and contributed greatly to the work of a number of the City Corporation’s Committee’s and given sterling support to Christ’s Hospital as its Governor in 2001 and to the Irish Society as its Governor from 2010-2012.

On taking their leave, his colleagues would like to express to Sir David and Theresa their very best wishes for their future health and happiness in Wales with the hope that they will long retain many happy memories of their civic life and all they have achieved for the wider City, for the City
