Vote of Thanks to Sir John Stuttard:-

Resolved unanimouslyThat in taking their leave of Sir John Stuttard, upon his retirement as Alderman for the Ward of Lime Street, this Court desires to place on record its most sincere appreciation of the service that he has given to the City Corporation and, in particular, to this Court, over the past twelve years.

Sir John was elected as Alderman for the Ward of Lime Street in 2001; he was elected to the Office of Sheriff in 2005 and served, as the City of London’s 679th Lord Mayor in 2006; carrying out the demanding role with dedication and veracity.  Having qualified as a chartered accountant in 1970 and become a Fellow of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Sir John went on to fulfill a high profile career, both in the UK and abroad.  He was therefore well equipped to promote the Square Mile and the Financial City widely throughout his Mayoralty and with great success. Knighted for his services to the City of London in 2008, Sir John has also received honors from the President of Kazakhstan, the Sultan of Selangor and the Government of Finland.

Sir John’s strong commitment to education began with his teaching role with the Voluntary Service Overseas in Brunei in 1966 and has continued throughout his civic career, with his active support for and promotion of  London as a place of learning and sharing skills.  This area of interest has also been reflected through his involvement with the Livery, particularly as a Master of two Companies.

On taking their leave, his colleagues would like to express to Sir John their most sincere thanks, together with the hope that he and Lesley will long retain many happy memories of his civic
