Professor Emma Edhem is a Barrister, Master of the Bench and Distinguished Barrister of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, practicing from No5 Chambers. She has over 30 years of extensive heavy weight City practice spanning a legal career in fields of International Cross Border Disputes, Fraud and Corruption (both Industry and Western Politics), General Geopolitics, Geopolitical Energy, Geopolitical Space, State Immunity, Cyber and Commerce. A number of Emma’s cases have appeared in national and global news.
Emma’s expertise made her a recognised figure in strengthening economic relations internationally. She was the first woman to take the helm as Chairman of the Turkish British Chamber of Commerce and Industry, working closely with the British Embassy and Consulate, along with assisting in setting up other international trade bodies. Through this work Emma is frequently called to advise governments of other jurisdictions through diplomatic engagement, convening and strengthening governance to attract more Foreign Direct Investments.
She contributes to academia through various universities, Cambridge Mensa as speaker, the Worshipful Company of Educators, and her role as Professor in Practice for Economics and Finance at Durham University along with her lead role in Geopolitical Energy. Emma is recognised as a persuasive speaker and is frequently called to deliver speeches on wide ranging topics both nationally and globally.
Emma is the Lord Mayor’s Aldermanic Envoy for Space Technology and Innovation and is working on finding solutions which could help pave the way for the emergence of a Space Economy within the private sector. She sits on the Board of the Police Authority and Economic and Cyber Crime Board and was previously the lead SIA on Police Tactical and Strategic Firearms.
Emma is the fifth woman, fourth ethnic minority, second mother, and one of the first few social mobility to have held the Office of Alderman.
