David was educated at Windsor Grammar School and St John's College, Oxford, where he won an Open Scholarship to read Law (Jurisprudence). Subsequently he trained and qualified as a solicitor with the firm he is still associated with, as a consultant, after more than 30 years, namely Hogan Lovells International LLP. He specialised in litigation and had experience of a wide variety of civil disputes before specialising in product liability litigation. As a result David has considerable experience of litigation in the US and Canada and in managing large scale disclosure exercises and is a Solicitor Advocate for Civil Proceedings. David's experience of the education sector includes governorships with the City of London School for Girls, the City of London School for Boys and the Emmanuel School. Experience of the Higher Education Sector was gained as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, 2012-15 (currently Deputy Chairman) where David is now a Fellow. Other current roles include President of the Cripplegate Ward Club, Junior Warden of the City of London Solicitors' Company, Governor of the Cripplegate Foundation (a charity) and of the St Paul's Cathedral Chorister Trust. David has also sat as a Magistrate since 2009.
