Address of Condolence to His Majesty The King

Resolved unanimously –“May it please Your Majesty,

We, the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London, Your Majesty's loyal and devotedsubjects, address Your Majesty to express our heartfelt condolences on the death of your mother and our beloved Queen. Her Majesty became the first Royal Princess to be admitted to the Freedom of our City by patrimony andhonoured us with many visits, including the occasions of her memorable Jubilees.  They all reinforced the strong links which bind our City to The Crown.

During her long and distinguished reign sinceher anointing as Sovereign, Her Majesty had steadfastly maintained her promise that her whole life would be devoted to the service of her peoples.

At her side was her beloved husband, HisRoyal Highness The Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh.  Most sadly we recall his passing and her presence at his funeral in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.  It was a sombre occasion watched by many people across the world.

Your Majesty has now succeeded to theThrone of this ancient Kingdom.  The Crownsymbolises the very unity of our country – its peace, its liberty, its self respect and pride upon which it has always depended and will always depend.

May we humbly assure Your Majesty that you will always command the affection, the loyalty and the devotion of the Citizens, Freemen and people of our great City.
