Resolved: - That the minutes of the Court of Aldermen meeting held on 3^rd December 2024 were correctly recorded.

Resolution of Condolence:

Resolved unanimously: That the Members of this Honourable Court having learned of the recent death of Sir Brian Jenkin, an Alderman for the Ward of Cordwainer from 1980 to 2004, an incredible 24 years of service; as Sheriff of the City in 1987-88; and as the 664^th Lord Mayor of the City of London in 1991.

Sir Brian enjoyed a high-flying career as a Chartered Accountant, as a partner in Coopers & Lybrand. He became a pioneer in computer auditing, both in his firm and in the accounting profession generally. He wrote a standard book and called it “Approach to Computers” – first published in 1978 and translated into five languages. In the profession, Sir Brian served as Chairman of the London Society of Chartered Accountants, and President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He was elected the President of the British Computer Society for its 40^th Anniversary year, 1997-98.

On retirement from Coopers & Lybrand, Sir Brian joined the Board of the Woolwich Building Society, becoming its Chairman in 1995. In 1997, the Woolwich Building Society demutualised and joined the FTSE 100 as Woolwich PLC. In 2000, the Woolwich PLC shareholders accepted an offer from Barclays, and Sir Brian spent his last years in business as the Deputy Chairman of Barclays, retiring in 2004.

In addition to his business industry special interest, Sir Brian’s City civic CV was equally impressive. His Mayoral theme was “The City Serving Europe” and spent much of his time and energy emphasising the City’s businesses across Europe. His Mayoralty was also particularly concerned to the response to the IRA bombing in front of the Baltic Exchange building at St Mary Axe. The Chamberlain presented the names of the one hundred and sixty two persons to be made free of this City, and it is Ordered that they be admitted into the Freedom of the City accordingly, as follows:-

Application of the following to be recorded as a Freeman of the City in the Company named: -

Petition of the Company of Entrepreneurs for Company with Livery Status

The Court of Alderman considered recommendations of its General Purposes Committee on a petition of the Company of Entrepreneurs to be constituted as a Livery Company of the City of London.

Resolved unanimously: - That the Court of Aldermen:

i.                Grant the Company of Entrepreneurs’ petition to be recognised as a Livery Company of the City of London, and to approve their Constitution and Ordinances.

ii.              Given that these proposed Constitution and Ordinances conform to the law and custom of the City, the Company of Entrepreneurs be then constituted a Livery Company of the City with the title “The Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs”, that the formal grant be embodied in Letters Patent under the Mayoralty Seal and that the proposed Constitution and Ordinances be approved and enrolled among the records of the Court of Aldermen as the 112th Livery Company of the City.

The draft of a Precept to the Masters, Prime Wardens, Upper Bailiff and Wardens of the several Livery Companies requiring the attendance of the Livery on 24^th June next for the next election of Sheriffs and other Officers for the year ensuing and on 29^th September next, for the election of a Lord Mayor of this City, for the year ensuing, was read, agreed to and ordered to be issued.

An Order against persons crowing upon the Hustings at elections at Common Hall was passed.

Resolved: - That The Right Revd Vivienne Faull, be requested to preach before this Court and the Governors of the several hospitals of this City, at the Guild Church of St Lawrence Jewry on Thursday, 6^th March 2025.

Also that the Vicar of St Lawrence Jewry be requested to –

(a)   Grant permission for the use of St Lawrence Jewry church;

(b)   Settle the details of the service,

(c)   Brief The Right Reverend Vivienne Faull, and

(d)   Conduct the service.
