The Deputy Chair, in the Chair, introduced the item, recalling the Committee’s discussion at the previous meeting and drawing Members’ attention to the recommendation of the report. The Deputy Chair, noting that the report was also to be considered at the Joint Grand Gresham Committee meeting, encouraged Members to raise any points relevant to the City Side ahead of a more substantive discussion of the proposal at the joint meeting.
In response to a question from a Member, the Principal Librarian of the Guildhall Library advised that the sponsors had jointly funded all restoration activity in the past 25 years. However, there was also evidence of restoration activity having been undertaken prior to 1999, although it was not clear how this had been funded.
