To pass a Vote of Thanks to the late Lord Mayor

Minutes:

Resolved unanimously – That this Court wishes to convey to Alderman The Lord Mountevans, its sincere appreciation and thanks for the distinguished manner in which he has carried out the demanding role of Lord Mayor of the City of  London during the past year.

Throughout Jeffrey’s Mayoralty, which has resulted in him travelling to more than 25 countries and numerous cities and towns within the UK, he has rigorously championed the UK’s financial and professional services sectors and spoken passionately about the role of the City and the UK as an important hub for dynamic and emerging industries.

Drawing on his strong shipping background he has successfully promoted the maritime sector throughout the year, including the contribution that the sector has made to both the City and the UK’s economy, and he has highlighted, wherever possible, the UK’s pre-eminence in this field. His attendance as the UK’s official representative at the opening of the new Panama Canal, along with his continuing work around the Maritime Growth Study, which he had chaired at the Government’s request,  reflect his commitment to and passion for the UK’s maritime sector.

Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at St Paul’s Cathedral and Guildhall, the State Banquet for the President of Colombia in November and many important and high-profile inward visits, including from heads of State and government, are just some of the many significant occasions that have taken place throughout the Mayoral year and have been enthusiastically hosted by the Lord Mayor.

Jeffrey’s commitment and enthusiasm have also been unfailing in respect of his philanthropic work and his support for the Livery.  The Lord Mayor’s Appeal has supported a number of charities including JDRF and the Sea Cadets with whom the Lord Mayor has had a long association.  Throughout this busy year - in all of his work and even during a sponsored abseil down St Lawrence Jewry - the Lord Mayor has received the unending support and dedication of the Lady Mayoress, Juliet, who has herself undertaken a varied and engaging programme.

In taking their leave of The Lord Mountevans as the 688th Lord Mayor of this City, his colleagues sincerely hope that he, Juliet and the rest of the family will long retain many happy memories of a successful year in Office.
