Wendy Mead is Chairman and Spokesman of The Save Bart's Campaign. She is a Past Chairman of St. Bartholomew the Great Heritage Trust, Vice Chairman of The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew (League of Friends) and Chairman of Housing the Homeless Central Fund. To enhance her local Government skills, she attended the I&Dea Leadership Academy Summer School in 2003 and attended seminars in Chairmanship and Media Presentation Skills before chairing Epping Forest & Commons Committee in 2006.
Wendy was elected Sheriff of the City of London in July 2011 and took office for one year on 28th September 2011. Her recreational interests include the performing arts, gardening and all aspects of the convivial life of the City of London through its Liveries and Ward Clubs. Wendy is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Companies of Glovers and Pattenmakers.
Wendy was elected Chief Commoner by the Court of Common Council in October 2016 and took office on 27 April 2017. This ancient office is the most senior position a Common Councilman can achieve and Wendy is proud and honoured to follow distinguished predecessors into this historic role at the heart of the City of London Corporation, the oldest continuous democracy in the world.
As Chief Commoner, Wendy is responsible for promoting the aims, values and responsibilities of the City of London Corporation internally - and externally in support of the Lord Mayor and the Policy Chairman and also takes the lead in relation to all matters of City Corporation hospitality.
