Elected in February 2001, Deputy Lord is Lead Member for Sport and Deputy Chair of the Gresham Committee. They have served as the Corporation’s chair of Licensing, Standards, Establishment (now Corporate Services), and Civic Affairs, and as a member of the senior Policy & Resources Committee from 2009 to 2023.
Outside the Corporation, Deputy Lord is a Justice of the Peace for Central London and a lay member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal. They are also a non-executive director of the British Basketball League and the independent chairperson of the Audit & Risk Committee of the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission.
Deputy Lord is Deputy Governor of The Honourable The Irish Society and a council member of Gresham College as well as serving on the Audit & Risk Management Committee of the University of Essex, their alma mater.
A passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, they have previously served as a board member of Albert Kennedy Trust, Anne Frank Trust, LGBT Foundation, Pride Trust, and the Refugee Council as well as being the Local Government Association’s national lead on equality and social inclusion from 2004 to 2013.
