Alex Barr represents Cordwainer Ward and was elected to Court of Common Council in 2017. Alex has a longstanding direct connection to his ward, having been professionally based here from 2005 to 2019 with Aberdeen Standard Investments (‘ASI’).
Alex has nearly 30 years Investment Management industry experience. He is Managing Partner and co-founder of Bread Street Capital Partners (‘Bread Street’), an investment partnership focused on managing specialist private markets investment portfolios for institutional and professional investors.
Prior to founding Bread Street, he held senior investment and leadership roles at Janus Henderson, ASI and Deutsche Asset Management. He started his investment management career with Franklin Templeton in 1993. At ASI he built several successful investment desks, subsequently becoming Global Head of Investment Oversight for Private Markets and Real Estate. Alex has served on multiple governance and investment committees, chaired ASI’s award winning DC pension scheme, and sat for four years on the UK Investment Association’s Asset Management Committee.
Alex is former pupil of Queen Anne High School, Fife, and a graduate of Aberdeen University. He completed the inaugural Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme, at Said Business School, University of Oxford.
