Additional Information

John Fletcher was born in London in 1952. His childhood was spent in Buenos Aires, Argentina and on his return to the UK he was educated at Welbeck College and R.M.A. Sandhurst.

He was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals in 1972 and served worldwide, including three operational tours. John retired from the regular army in 1982.

He settled in London, working in private security, and joined the T.A. in the parachute squadron of 39 (City of London) Signal Regiment. John married in 1989 and relocated to Milton Keynes upon the birth of his daughter where he worked as a service and technical sales manager.

John moved back to London in 2007 to be with his second wife, Luz Amparo and lives in The City on the Guinness Trust Estate, Mansell St. Shortly after retirement in John was elected to Common Council in a byelection. Since then, working as an elected community representative, looking after the residents and small businesses in his Ward, has been his main occupation, along with time with his family including 3 young grandsons.

John is disabled and is proud to be able to continue his work for his friends and neighbours, despite the challenges of his chronic condition. John says, “You see things from a different perspective in a wheelchair.”
